Conflict Minerals Policy

Materials including tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold, (collectively referred to as “3TG”) are often used in the manufacture of products such as machinery and consumer electronics.  Because historically such minerals have been sourced from regions including conflict-affected areas such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo (the DRC) and some of its adjoining countries, these are referred to as “Conflict Minerals”.



The EU defines countries or areas considered to be conflict-affected or high-risk as those:

 

• Whose natural resources include minerals which are in high demand, either locally, regionally or globally;

 

and

 

• Are either suffering from armed-conflict, such as civil war, a state of fragile post-conflict, or witnessing weak or non-existing governance and systematic violations of international law, including human rights abuses.

 



Calon is committed to ensuring the health, safety and protection of people who come into contact with our products and business.  We require high social, environmental and human rights standards among our suppliers.  Managing our obligations in relation to Conflict Minerals is a part of this corporate responsibility.



Calon is committed to:

 

• Identifying the sources of any 3TG minerals in the products we manufacture, or contract to manufacture;
• Working with our suppliers to ensure that any 3TG contained in the products and materials supplied to Calon originate solely from conflict-free sources;
• Contributing to conflict-free trade by encouraging our suppliers not to discriminate against legitimate sources of 3TG.

 

In addition, Calon expects that its suppliers will:

 

• Not knowingly supply Calon with products containing 3TG materials that are not from conflict-free sources; and
• Support Calon’s efforts to identify the smelters and refiners that process 3TG used in our products, and the countries and mines of origin of such materials.

 


This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated as appropriate.
